Ash Wednesday

Today marks the beginning of the season of Lent and the first day of the 40-Day Bible Challenge. Today’s readings are Matthew 1-3 and Luke 1-3, the birth narratives of Jesus. Remember that the men who wrote these Gospels did so with the full knowledge of what was to come. As you begin your journey through the Gospels, keep this in mind. Reading about the birth of Jesus usually draws up memories in our minds of sanctuaries illumined with candlelight and decorated with poinsettia. But today we read these narratives in the dark and cold of winter and at the beginning of our journey to the cross. How does this impact your reading of these familiar stories?
