Today marks a transition point in our reading plan. The goal is not to leaving you with a cliffhanger in your Gospel reading (I presume you know how the story ends). Rather, the goal is to leave the narratives about Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection for Holy Week as a final reflection on our Lenten journey. And so, today we begin to read about the start of the Early Church. The book of Acts is said to have been written by the same author of the Gospel of Luke. It is almost like the sequel to the Gospels; Jesus is gone and the disciples begin to fulfill their great commission to make disciples of all nations. As you read today, try to place yourself in the midst of this exciting new time when the Gospel of Jesus Christ is just beginning to reach all the people of the world. How would you respond to hearing the disciples’ testimony? What would your role be in helping to further the Gospel message?
